You cannot craft string into Minecraft without a mod or a server plugin. But you can find string by 1. Killing Spiders, 2. Finding In Naturally Spawning Chests, or 3. Destroying Cobwebs with A Sword

Sorry, there isn't, but you can pretty much generate string if you find a spider spawner.
