Authentication Servers Are Down Mac (Tried all other fixes)

Hi there. I bought Java Edition yesterday to play on a server with my boyfriend. We wanted to play FTB Sky Odyssey. He set up a private server for us. The server was running fine on his end and others could join too. However, when I joined, it said "The authentication servers are down for maintenance". At first, we thought this was an issue with the way he set up the server. After some tweaking, we realised I couldn't join a normal LAN world either. We then tried joining a public Sky Odyssey server and that gave the same error message. We then thought it was an issue with the modpack itself and so tried running a LAN world with the latest vanilla release (1.16.4) and the LAN world didn't even show up on my multiplayer screen. We then tried running some vanilla servers, including Hypixel and Mineplex. Hypixel gave the same error message. We know that the authentication servers are not down because this has been an on-going issue and my boyfriend could load the server just fine with his account. Mineplex gave the error message "Not Authenticated with Minecraft.net". After some digging, we realised this was due to a username change. As such, we tried logging in and out of Minecraft. This did not fix it. To test if it was just my laptop, or my account, we logged into my account on his laptop and he was able to join every server we tried. Now knowing that the issue was my mac, we tried reinstalling Minecraft and Curse Forge and then re-logging in. We did this just by deleting them from the applications folder and redownloading both launchers. We didn't delete any cache folders, or anything from the .minecraft folder. This didn't work. We then tried reinstalling Java 8. This didn't work either. We also tried downgrading to Java 7, but there was no public version available. This issue persisted across both versions Minecraft 1.12.2 and Minecraft 1.16.4. We didn't try any other version as we didn't think the issue was version related. We also thought the issue was being caused by the Mac trying to connect through an IPv6 address rather than an IPv4. As such, we tried adding the line "-Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true" to JVM arguments in the "More Options" tab under the 1.16.4 instance. This too, did not work; the error message continued (both with and without the argument). This is everything we could think of to solve the issue. Please help however you can, as I can't play multiplayer in any way, shape or form and, as you know, that's one of the best parts of the game.

Most of the time when you get an auth server message that just means you are having some kind of network issue, not that there is a real issue with the servers. For example, if you try to play a LAN world without a connection to the internet you will get this issue because the game tries to verify your account before you can join the server.
Your issue is with your computer or your connection through your router.
-If you have a firewall set up on your computer, make sure it isn't blocking your connection to the Minecraft auth server
-Try disconnecting and reconnecting the wifi
-Make sure you don't have some wacky DNS that could reroute the connection
-If everything on your computer looks normal and you still can't do anything, try resetting your computer's connection and maybe some properties from the router's side
-If nothing from the networking side works, copy everything out of the .minecraft folder and reinstall the game completely

if the auth servers are down, just wait like 20 minutes or so, and there is nothing you can do to fix it
