Sometimes, you just get to the point where you are burnt out with the game. Don't force yourself to play it, because you might just end up not liking the game anymore.
Instead, take a break. Play some other games, or do other things that you either should be doing or do things that you want to do.

I haven't played single player for months, maybe up to a year. But do I still like the game? Heck yeah I do! But there are also other games that I like to play, as well as homework/studying/work that needs to get done.

If you're bored, just "take 5".

download an awesome adventure map by a top minecrafter and have fun surviving a bad ass bunny, (FVDisco) running throungh an zombie pos apocalyptic city (bananafone31) surviving a haunted house (hypixel), or many, many, MANY others! there's some good ones out there!

Build a tree house. Burn it. Do it again.

Play multiplayer! Multiplayer is really fun since you can play with your firends and many other people. You can PvP make a house and things like that with many other players. Feel free to join my server if you wish! V

Go outside.

Lag out world with tnt, or create superflat world with sand only no bedrock, destroy bottom block, so much fun.

Drink warm milk while being sang lullabies by a pet creeper you named Nana.

Play online with other players! That's always a lot of fun when you can find a good server to join.

Change game for a while then come back to it.
Try out mods (Feed The Beast packs have a lot of nice pre-set ones that you don't have to go through the hassle of installing).
Join a server instead of playing alone.
Set yourself a large project to build with a specific theme to stick to, or make adventure map's, parkour, and so on.
Play hardcore mode without making a home or hiding inside somewhere, and see how long you can last.
Set Everything in sight on fire.

Take a break for a while. After my favorite server died in 2011, I took a break for about six months. That way I had a fresh experience when I came back.

Put enchantments on items that really shouldn't have enchantments and name them.
Make a temple or something...
Install mods for more fun.

Give yourself 2 diamond swords and go fight mobs on hard.

You should either:
1. Make a hardcore world
2. Play a survival map (eg extrem ant farm survival)
3. Go into creative and mess around with redstone
4. Build something.

I find adding new mods or texture packs helps change it up a bit... Sonic Ether's Unbelievable Shaders makes it feel like an entirely different game at times!
