Can someone help me make an outdated server?

I ALREADY HAVE a beta 1.5 server (BUKKIT). But how do i actually log on? I have a mod where i can choose which version of minecraft i want to play. But when i choose minecraft beta 1.5, and when i try to log on to my server, this is what happens:
-i type in my ip
-it downloads terrain
-it loads some more
-then my character spawns in the middle of no where
-then my character turns all black (no chunks have loaded at all)
-then i am just stuck in the middle of nowhere( i can look around, but i cant walk)
How can i fix this? heeeelp!!! thanks!
