Hey guys. I tried playing Minecraft LAN with my brother , but it says " Java.net.ConnectException ". I tried editing "hosts" file with notepad but I didn't find 'minecraft' in it. We both have the same minecraft edition - 1.7.9 and my laptop and his computer both run on Windows 7(x64). Please help us.

Minecraft LAN is broken, this works 99% of the time
On the computer you want to connect to:
Press the windows logo and r at the same time on your keyboard.
Then type cmd then press enter.
It should bring up a black box.
Now type ipconfig then press enter
Under "Network adapter local area connection" you should see "IPv4 address"
Write the number beside "IPv4 address" down.
Go into minecraft and once you are in a single player game press escape and click "Open to lan"
After you have set up your LAN world it will tell you in the chat what port the LAN server is on. Write this down too.
To connect:
Go into minecraft and click multiplayer then click direct connect.
Now type in the direct connect box:
The IPv4 number then a colon, then the port number like this
EXAMPLE: 192.168.1.1:12345
Click connect then you should be in their game!

I have set up some web pages that will help with setting up LAN and getting through the firewall. http://gamerfacetime.com/lan-not-workin ... -play-lan/
I always found that the YouTube videos seemed to be vague and go too fast. Just check it out I think you will like it.
If this helps, please leave a comment and help others find it

Well, I would first start with the basics. Are you guys even on the same network?
Yep. Your best bet would be to just downgrade.
TheMystic2. Perhaps changing the host? Maybe have the other machine run the server instead. Simply an idea.
When my brother runs a server I can see it. But when I run a server he cant see it. What should i do now????
yah LAN 1.7.9 doesnt work
i just tried
i just tried
LAN doesnt work on 1.7.9 ??? to which version should I downgrade to ??? Will my save file work on the down graded version??
downgrade to a 1.7.2 it has everything 1.7.9 has except for name changing support which isnt even in use yet
I heard that apparently LAN is bugged in 1.7.9, try downgrade and see if it works in 1.7.4. I don't know if its true I haven't tested it.
Make sure you firewall isnt blocking the connection
I tried that. But no use.
Although this isn't my sort of field anymore, I should at least attempt to help, heh.
I guess there's really a few options. You can try:
1. Have a fresh wipe and reinstall of MC on both computers. This includes deleting your .minecraft in your Roaming folder. (Obviously backup any saves you'd like.)
2. Perhaps changing the host? Maybe have the other machine run the server instead. Simply an idea.
3. Downgrade your Minecraft version a bit, or use another LAN IP/Service for your server. A VPN software like Hamachi or No-Ip might work for your LAN needs.
Good luck, as these were just some things I'd try to do!
