Hello, today I got the Citizens plugin from spigot for 10$ ( https://www.spigotmc.org/resources/citizens.13811/ ). It is not working on my 1.8.8 Spigot server.

For that link, it just said "Unknown command. Try /help for a list of commands"

Well, you don't have to, that link is created by the Citizens creator (Or a bot in his name). In a post I've read that he also offers the plugin for money because the donations weren't profitable enough.
That didn't work either... Maybe I have to zip/unzip/jar/unjar the file?

Are there any logs that show an error? And do you have any plugins that may conflict with Citizens?
Idk if I have conflicting plugins... my server has around 40-50 plugins... Does citizens exist for 1.8.8 though? Because always when I tried to install it it said things about a wrong server version, that isn't compatible, that I should try other version of Citizens (which I have) etc...
