Computer Lagg Because Of Server

hello, i have been having this problem for quite a while now. ever since i started hosting a minecraft server on my mac mini it started lagging ALOT any ideas of how to fix this? (if you're not a mac user please don't reply saying bad comments about macs)
details:
- 4GB of RAM
- i use 2GB of RAM in the server
- i close the console and it stops lagging (so its not something else)

That's normal, and there's nothing to much you can do about that. Your server will lag and so will your minecraft client, I recommend you paying for a server host to prevent lag or host the server on a different computer, and I recommend a windows computer for that. So, in general, your computer just isn't strong enough, and it's definately not a good idea to play minecraft on the computer your hosting the server. Though, I don't know much about home hosting servers, as I pay a server host like www.mcprohosting.com to run my server, so I could easily be making a fool of myself right now.
