Hey guys, so today, a guy said if I dont give him op, he will ddos.
Not taking it seriously, I banned him.
3 seconds later, it happened. He put my server down, instantly.
Does anybody know how stop this from happening?

I do have a host with ddos protection now
Personally, get a host that offers DDOS protection! Then again, if you anger the wrong people no amount of protection can help you. Take anonymous and their Sony takedown. If corporate level DDOS protection can't save you, well... glhf.

Look at the offender's IP, do a simple whois, make sure it is not a proxy they joined from.
Then simply contact the ISP to tell them their customer is engaging in illegal activity.

My hosting company, EaseHoster FINALLY got anti DDOS. FINALLY! Wooohoo!
After sending about 10232 complaints about it, they got it, for me and all their other customers!

For someone who doesn't know what Dosing is or Ddosing, Its not hacking and its not really dangerous. Basically what it does it uses a CPU to ping someones IP address from their router and basically slows their internet down to a certain speed that they don't have internet for a certain time... And It's not really possible to stop it from happening to a person beside buying proxies or getting a new router, VPN's ect. (good VPN is http://www.privatetunnel.com) And for servers Ddos protection is ALOT of money. Hope this helped!

We're not supposed to give away this kind of info but pretty much. Its just noobs who think they can hack so they just download a Ddosing file and run it to your server. What it pretty much does is it makes the lag traffic so heavy on your server that it basically crashes (I'm not sure if its exactly this, but its something like that)

Btw, If you have a strong enough firewall (and really good anti-virus programs) you might be able to reflect the Ddos and reroute it back to him

As soon as anyone threatens you, ban the account and then instantly ban their ip, because when you do this it means they cant access the server at all through any account or any computer in their network.
Correction again to all these noobs in this thread They could have a VPN on and get on aswell... -.-

Well, it was originally, supposed to be Coolulices, but I decided the American version wasn't "confusing"
I'd get a protection.
Once on the server I played in we got someone DDos'ing us for about 2 hours (he was using weepcraft) -_- We already knew the person, he raged real bad, he was also working with an admin in the server (noone really liked him). They kept trying and trying to lag crash us but failed XD The owner forgot the admin had access to the control panel and just shut the server down but there were Admins online and kept it back up :3

Okay basicly it's like pinging a server over and over again really fast for an hour or so sending packets at the server. When multiple people do it the server can't send the packets back in time causing it to crash.

Are you stupid? You can't send a DDoS back to someone with a firewall and even if you tell the police they won't do anything. DDoS is using multiple computers to send packets so that means multiple IP's. What the hell do you think the police are going to do to someone DDoS'ing a Minecraft server? That's right... Nothing.
Your best bet is to just wait it out or contact your hosting company if you have one about it or if you have the money buy DDoS protection.

Corrections Ddosing is not hacking AT ALL. I REAPEAT DDOSING IS NOT HACKING! Its just using a computer to ping someones IP address and send a poop ton of packets to their router (or the host/server whatever it is) and shutting it down.

There isnt a way to stop a ddos you can get your ip blacklisted from the ddos company but that will cost money the other thing you can do is block your router from receiving packets from the ip which is ddosing you.

i looked it up, ddosing can get you up to 10 years in prison and it is a federal crime.

also, time the ddos. is it only like 5 minutes? use the task manager (cntl-alt-del) to watch network traffic to see

Well, since I use a proxy (BungeeCord) everybodies ip is the same. But I found out , earlier today that i can go to the BungeeCord server consol and type /ip <player>
You don't need to do /ip in the console you can do it in-game aswell.
^_^ as the other people said buy ddos protection i reccomend cloudfare just trying to help also if you dont want to get ddos'd yourself download cyberghost vpn look it up on google will reallllyyyyyyy help you and your server if your hosting. if not submit a ticket with your ingame host.

There are ways to avoid Ddos attacks but the best is to try and avoid people who do this sort of thing.

Yes, it's possible. Since my server kept going down from DoS'ers, I ended up buying proxy protection. Great investment in my opinion
