Disable hunger / damage in spawn?
I'm sure there's a way to do it with regions, right? I can't seem to find da wae

What kind of server do you use? If it has WorldEdit/WorldGuard then yeah: make a region and set the right flags. For example, you could use /rg flag <name> feed-amount 2 feed-delay 2. To disable damage just make the players invincible: /rg flag <name> invincible allow
With these settings i still loose hunger inside the region
So lower the feed-delay or raise the feed-amount.
