Me and my friend were thinking about making a server, but we want to know if it would be too hard and if we should just stick with multiplayer games.

It really depends upon what you want to do with your server.
Nope. It's hard.
Add me on skype at trevorjohn5 and I will help
Getting a server and getting it open to the public is very easy. The only real 'hard' part after that is getting the right plugins, coding them correctly, and making sure everything is clean as a whistle. If you do manage to get past that part, all that's left is building your server, and then 'holding down the fort'. If you are not good at keeping the order, and making sure trolls and hackers are dealt with, then you won't be able to create a large server,
Yes, a standard bukkit server is easy to make, as plugins are simple to set up. On tekkit and feed the beast, it is a lot more complicated.
Well that would depend on how serious and how committed you are. If you are committed, then its hard but its worth it in the end.
It depends on what you're looking to make. If you're going toward the very simple servers, it's quite easy if you go with a game server provider. However if you are going to host at home and port forward, there's a bit more to do with that.
Most things are self explanatory(plugin configurations, etc.), and pretty much anything you have a problem on you can google and find it. Basically, if you want to learn something, google it. Want to know if something's possible? Google it.
You can just try making a server without port forwarding, hosting it locally on your computer just to test and see what you can and can't do. Once you figure out how to manage everything you can either rent a server from a game server provider, or port forward, as stated above.
More advanced things would be running a minecraft server on a VPS or dedicated server, but if you're just starting out, a home hosted or GSP should be fine.

Why isn't this coming up for last 20 posts for me?
