Endermen Help

Well in a server my friend and I were in, we successfully finished in making an Endermen farm much similar to Docms endermen farm. But for some reasons, even though we have 6 layers of pistons, endermen only spawn on the top layer. Is there some reason that the endermen don't spawn on the pressure plates? IS it some sort of plugin the server has? Someone please help
