Essentials Spawn not setting spawn for new players?

Essentials spawn is not setting spawn for new players on join? What am I doing wrong?
I do /setspawn for default and /setspawn newbies but they spawn under the spawn?

Check essentials/spawn.yml. You should see something like this:
If it appears correct in the .yml then my guess is you have a permissions problem or another plugin is trying to set a spawn point.

newbies:
world: WORLD_NAME
x: 1234
y: 1234
