Experiencing Lag with 50+ Players
Hello, I'm experiencing lag on my server when we hit 50+ players online. You can see players moving around, then freeze for a moment and then appear a couple blocks away as if their locations are not updating fluidly. I don't believe it's a ram issue but I've noticed our ticks per second go down to 16 at some points.
Server Specs:
E3-1270
32gb DDR3 ram
500gb SATA II Hard Drive
1 GBPS Uplink
Centos OS 64bit
Some more information that may help:
Bandwidth usage: http://buddystyles.com/minecraft/bandwidth.jpg
CPU: http://buddystyles.com/minecraft/cpu.jpg
IO: http://buddystyles.com/minecraft/io.jpg
Load: http://buddystyles.com/minecraft/load.jpg
Memory: http://buddystyles.com/minecraft/memory.jpg
I'd appreciate any help as I'm no server expert.

Thanks so much guys for your input! The server is dedicated and hosted with a business provider. I'll ask if they can switch everything over to a SSD and report back to let you know how it goes.
Yeah definetly your Disk IO maxing out. If you are going to run a MC server with more than lets say 30-40 players you need to go with SSD drives. Minecraft is a IO hog.
I would guess its your hard drive, minecraft uses a lot of random read/writes, and a hard drive can not handle that well, its not the raw speed of the hard drive but it takes time for the "head" of the hard drive to move physically, where as a solid state takes the same time to access any data on it no matter where it is located, if you can not afford a solid state I would look into making a ram disk. This is what defragmenting your hdd does, moves data for faster access, and why you dont defrag a ssd
Also are you hosting your self?
And is it being virtualized?
