Hello,
I've been trying to figure out this problem for as long as I can remember. Every single game I've had and played so far ran very smoothly, but Minecraft specifically seems to be against my computer. When I play on a server (sometimes even in singleplayer), I get a huge amount of chunk updates and lag unbearably. I've tried every method and rumor about killing these lag spikes: increasing RAM, using lower render distances, disabling particles and using Optifine with BetterFPS. I even tried overclocking my graphics card but the problem remains.
I'm very baffled since my computer is pretty good and should be able to handle Minecraft with ease. Its specs are:
CPU: Intel i5 660 @ 3.33GHz (dual core, 2 virtual cores)
RAM: 4GB (an extra 3GB from ReadyBoost and 8GB from paging files)
GPU: NVidia GeForce GT430 (overclocked to 732mhz GPU clock and 860mhz memory clock)
HDD: 1TB
Please help!
P.S. I'm interested whether even today's gaming PC's run like this; I might just upgrade one thing that sucks about my computer :/

hey! open task manager and check your disk value while it is lagging are the number inbewteen 90-100 precent if it is thats bad also do you have windows 10 because windows 10 is known to have this issue
Um no I have 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate and I can't find such a thing in Task Manager
the i5 660 doesnt have 2 virtual cores, it has 2 physical and 4 virtual, also a friend of mine has a mid range core 2 quad (q9500) at 2.8X and has no problems, on a side note
whats your power settings set to in windows?
what version of java you running?
using readyboost does more hard than good unless you desperately need more
dont count paging when handing out ram info

I use the settings Razer Gamebooster applies when you install it which sets min and max CPU usage to 100%, cooling policy to active and min parked cores to 10%
I always have the latest versions of every driver and Java too
I always have the latest versions of every driver and Java too
so you have 8U44?
and saying you use razor gamebooster doesnt tell me the windows power settings
also check task manager and see whats happening with cpu usage and unless your running mods keep the "allocated" ram to about 0.8-1.2gb

Well I use 2816MB for Minecraft and all of that is allocated.. is that the issue here?
