I was editing my server and testing out all the plugins, and found that firespread will not work. I made sure its enabled in essentials, and even tried turning up the game difficulty, however it still will not work. Any suggestions?

Another command (may or may not do the same thing as the command notjohnreyes said) /gamerule firespread true and /gamerule firetick true there are a bunch of cool /gamerule things, you should check them out.
Here is a copy of some information on the Worldguard site.
If you have WorldGuard follow this info.
If not, you have to set the difficulty to anything other than peaceful.
If none of the above works, you will have to type this command in,
/res set firespread true
fire:
disable-lava-fire-spread boolean false 1.0 Disable lava from causing fires.
lava-spread-blocks list [] 1.0 List of block IDs to allow lava to spread to. If the value of this is not defined, then lava spread behavior will be unaffected.
disable-fire-spread-blocks list [] 1.0 List of block IDs that can be burned. If the value of this is not defined, then fire spread behiavor will be unaffected.
disable-all-fire-spread boolean false 1.0 Disable all fire spread.

2nd open up "essentials"
3rd open up "config"
Go Down to "AntiBuild"
Search for firespreading its usually false change it to true!
