Forge problems

i put two mod files in the mods folder,opened minecraft,checked the mods menu,and they weren't there! if anyone has an explanation or better yet,an answer,please reply!

Have you run minecraft with the Forge profile before you put in the mods?
If you are using 1.7 are the mods .jars? These seem to be the only mod format i find for the new 1.7.
And if you extracted it, that might be the problem. Just put the whole .zip in there (But if this does not work im not too sure what you can do.)
