Frustrating texture pack problem. Need help
Hello. Are there any more skilled people out there who could help me? I have a problem with resource packs, normal correct resource packs, not showing up in the "Resource Packs" menu. I put them in the right folder, but I still can't select them. The strange thing is, my own older resource pack that I had before this glitch started appearing still shows up. I have no idea, please help.

Do you have any other Resource Packs? I would open them up and check their folder structure.
It should be like:
assets/minecraft/textures/blocks
instead of:
assets/blocks or assets/textures or anything different.
Also, are other Resource Packs working? Just to make sure it's not a client issue.

Yes, the folder setup is correct. Checked multiple times. I downloaded another 32x32 pack, and that one showed up. This is starting to get annoyingly unexplainable... My computer just doesn't want to.

Yes, that is how my texture pack is built up. Still absolutely no idea what the problem is...
So, so skilled! lol
Bump... SO annoyed at my pack for not working. Would it help anyone if I gave you the exact specs of the resource pack? Here you go anyway:
First the root folder, named "A Past Future 1.8". That folder contains the pack.png, the pack.mcmeta and the "assets" folder. The pack.mcmeta says this in it:
The "assets" folder contains these folders in order:
minecraft
textures
blocks
The "blocks" folder contains the textures I've edited so far, all 32x32. The name of the files are (with .png at the end):
cobblestone_mossy
cobblestone
planks_birch
planks_spruce
planks_oak
planks_spruce

The assets folder contains the minecraft folder which contains the textures folder which contains the blocks, items, gui, colormap, etc. folders, right? The names of the textures are correct, by the way.
Here's a visual of the file structure? The blurred out stuff isn't important

I'm sorry it's giving you this much trouble!

You have the three files (Folder=assets, notepad file=pack.mcmeta, and img pack.png) right?
If you have those, try zipping them into a .zip file, and see if that works.

Tried that with no different result.
Thanks for all the advice, but I double-checked everything and it seems correct. Everything should work, and yet nothing really does. Thank you all for the help, but it seems nothing works. I'm gonna try downloading another texture pack online and see if that works.
GlorificoThe most common mistake people make is not formatting their pack.mcmeta right, it should look like this:
{
"pack": {
"pack_format": 1,
"description": "enter-your-description-here-or-whatever"
}
}
You can just copy/paste that into your pack.mcmeta so long as it's completely cleared before you do that and it should work. The pack.mcmeta is the most important because if there's an error in it the pack won't show up, which is the issue you described.
Another big issue is that you have to put the assets, pack.mcmeta, and pack.png files directly in the zip, not in a folder with your texture pack name then the zip, because that will make it not show up.
If that doesn't solve your problem you need to make sure the file structure is correct, it should look something like:
(the dash marks indicate the file is within the one farther to the left, the assets, pack.mcmeta, etc are all in the zip with your texture pack's name)
"yourpacknamehere".zip (or just as a folder)
- assets
- pack.mcmeta
- pack.png
and in the assets folder:
minecraft (folder)
- textures
- blocks - put all block textures in this folder
- items - put all item textures in this folder
- (and maybe a few other folders for GUI and colormaps)

I install tons of resource packs. as long as its contents are in the proper format in a zipped folder like win rar or 7 zip it should work. I suggest using win rar
I know you're not meant to but it works for me if you unzip it (resource packs).
To all you requesting me to unzip it, I have, it's not a .zip file. What could possibly be wrong with it? It's my own pack, with 32x32 textures and just a few blocks changed. No idea at all.
For it to show up in that list, it should be in a .zip format. You will need to zip it up and put it in the resource packs folder.
Tried that, both zipping the files (assets, png, mcmeta) and zipping the root folder itself, which I really didn't expect to work. None of them worked.
Did you unzip it?
Unzip what? :00
Does your resource pack have a pack.META file in it so the game recognizes it as a resource pack?
Edit: it's supposed to be in the first folder right with the assets folder and pack.png file.

Did that with no result. The pack I'm trying to get to work is at 32x32 resolution (it's my own, I have only changed a few textures so far) but that shouldn't cause any problems, right?
Restarting your computer might work.
Only resourcepacks will show up in the menu even if they are in the resourcepacks folder. In minecraft 1.6 or higher you can no longer use texturepacks. You can convert a texturepack to a resourcepack using textureenderguide.weebly.com/download.html
Oh, I know that. Sorry for not being clear - I meant resource packs, and I put them in the resource pack folder. I guess I'm still used to calling them texture packs
