Hello there ! If you have a server that only has about 3 players on a day READ THIS!

Staff
Your staff need to be mature, helpful and active. Don't just give people a staff rank right when they join to make them stay on. To many staff won't be good! Lets say your best friend wants to be a staff member but he's not mature enough or is not active, don't hire him/her. You want your staff to be helpful. Make sure your staff interact with the players, showing them around and helping everyone. CHOOSE YOUR STAFF WISELY!
Advertising
If your server is small, don't go on a big server like mineplex and say >> Join My server (IP <<! Don't Advertise like that, post your server on websites including planetminecraft.
When i post on Planet minecraft i get 5 players on in less that 4 minutes!
Building
You have to be a good builder for a successful server, don't download a map. Downloading a map will make your server look bad. If you need a builder find one online.
Commands
Don't abuse your power commands. Don't just kick,ban,temp ban or mute people just for fun, if you do that the person would leave the server. If someone did something wrong to hurt someone, or anything else, you may give them one of these punishments.
Permissions
Before you realize your server, make sure ranks and permissions are setup. If you need a rank/permissions plugin, i recommend PermissionsEx.
Before Releasing
Before you release the server, tell people about your server, tell friends or anyone you play with, when you tell them it will get players when you release the server. My Server just released at play.westoak.us
