PermissionsEx is good for prefixes and permissions but if you're looking for an easier approach i'd recommend Group Manager simply because it's not as complex.

Essentials does NOT work, idk if you know this yet. Try download EssentialsX as that works much better.
With sethomes, that comes with the essentials I provided above.
A list of all the perms:
And for prefixes, get groupmanager. Look up how to use that for further help.
