first of, sorry about the tech illiteracy.

so my minecraft has been lagging, freezing, crashing, since tiny takeover. I havent been able to play for like a month. I tried to fix it awhile ago, lowering render distance etc. didnt work. So im trying again. this time im trying to allocate more ram. i have a couple of questions. when i try to change the ram under installations > My Update i play on > JVM Arguements it shows "Xms4G - Xmx4G - blah blah blah" on others videos it only shows "xmx4G - balh blah blah" im wondering

1. is it fine to have "xms4G"
2. what does "xms4G" do
3. which 4, between the two, do i change? Xmx4G or Xms4G?

tech is one of the most infuriating things

Having Xms and Xmx set to the same number is completely normal; Xms is the starting RAM, Xmx is the maximum RAM Minecraft can use, and usually you only need to increase the Xmx value if you want to allocate more memory.

Change Xmx4G. Xmx is max memory and Xms is minimum memory. I would recommend setting Xms to Xms0G, so Minecraft doesn't use memory when it doesn't need to. Allocating RAM doesn't do that much though. PLEASE CHECK OUT THIS SMP, LINKS: ShockwaveSMP Minecraft Server, ShockwaveSMP | Minecraft Servers
