Help with Essentials

Hey, so I have a Mac and I'm trying to home host a 1.8 craftbukkit server. I have the latest version of java installed but for some reason when I try to install Essentials and the other Essential plugins like chat, spawn, etc. It does not work. I know you need the latest version of Java installed for essentials to work and i have it, I've even installed it multiple times. I really need some ideas please.

If you haven't downloaded essentials from this link (https://hub.spigotmc.org/jenkins/job/Spigot-Essentials/) it won't work.
