Help With Forge Installation Difficulty
I am running Minecraft 1.8.1 with Windows 8.
I have downloaded the installer for Forge 1.8 (latest version)
When I click on "install" I get the message "You must run 1.8 manually at least once."
I have run 1.8 manually multiple times, and still get the same message. Can anyone offer some useful tips or advice? (Please no "OMG you're so stupid you can't . . . . etc., etc.)

did you click play and played minecraft then quit game?,if not try it it might work btw where did you downlaod it?
I opened Minecraft, played it, saved and quit. Several times, actually.
I first downloaded the launcher and ran it from the download folder, with the install path set to the minecraft folder (apps/roaming/minecraft). Tried that several times, always getting the "manually install" message. Then extracted the download to the minecraft folder, and tried the launcher from there, but it wouldn't launch.

Try running the version 1.8 not 1.8.1 and try

I've tried running 1.8 and 1.81, and even 1.7, but still have the same problem.
