Help with making one piston push

i have 2 pistons stacked ontop of eachother on the Y axis. whenever i try to power the top one it always powers the bottom one. ik this happens with redstone but i need a way to work around it for a redstone project, but cant find said work around. anyone know how to power only the top piston?

This is a vanilla setup in 1.17.1 for just activating the top piston, if this is what you mean by your setup :
