I'm Paige and I need some help! So I want to get and launch mods, but the only problem is, when I download forge, it is blank so can't open it! I heard some people say you need to download Java, but there's some websites that says Java has malwares and spywares. If I have to, which update is safe and what else I have to do. Please, I want to play with mods and try it out! Thanks for your support.

You cant run minecraft without java, so if you played before without the mods you dont need to download java. And java auto updates if im not wrong.

there was some issue going around with forge running on java 8 but that now seems to be fixed for me, if you are running java 8 and your game doesn't launch check your mods before downgrading to 7, you might have some incompatible mods there, that is if you get a minecraft crash w/ report
if you get a scary java error chances are you'll need to downgrade to java 7 which can be downloaded safely from here

You should get the updates from the official website. Others may just get you malware.
