Me and my friend got a server, and thinking of host since the server have gotten more players and yea.
The players often complain on the server is too laggy, so we need to add like more RAM on the server all the time. We are on 6GB ram now. and about 10 plugins.
Ive checked on hosting sites and i checked daddycheese and they said like 2GB dedicated memory, and 1-24 players. But since we need to have like 6GB ram on the server we need to go up to prices for like 70$ and stuff. We cant afford that!
BTW do the server get less laggy when its hosted? And is the server only laggy cuz its homehosted?

Forgot to add I'm using WoB Hosting (World of Bros) and they've been very affordable ($7USD per GB RAM) and also their customer service is outstanding. Need any help just submit a ticket and they're on it like flies on poop. Very satisfied with them so far, they cap at 7GB RAM right now so I'm talking with them about upping that or being forced to eventually choose another host as my server grows and requires it. I'd like to stick with them as long as possible though.
I think there's a referral bonus but I can't find the code right now, not too worried anyways. Rather help you get setup on a good affordable host. By the way they also offer US and EU hosting to suit your needs.

Most of these 'minecraft hosts' are very very overpriced, you can rent an entire 16 gig ram dedicated box from ovh for 30 euros a month, whereas a minecraft host charges 100 euros + for that much space, aswell as the fact that you only get a tiny tiny TINY portion of the processor. Of course, you need to know how to setup the box yourself, so minecraft server hosts came in and decided to take advantage of people who don't know how to .
That host looks good value however, compared to pricing of daddycheese and nitrous etc.
If you're looking for a good, cheap host you can try Pytohost. $6/gig of RAM. Of course, they also have a good upload/download speeds.

Your problem isn't the RAM, it's the connection. You can have all the RAM in the world but if your download and mainly upload speeds are low, it won't matter they'll lag like crazy. When I started my server I hosted it on a spare PC for about 2 weeks and we could safely hold about 10 players, anything after that we got lag. When we pushed 20 players it got unbearable which is when I invested in a host.
Remember, the more plugins, the more RAM needed. Also if you're running it from your home computer and also playing on the same computer, it's stealing some of the RAM to play the game and also bandwidth for your connection. If you want a server of 5-10 players and have decent internet, hosting at home is just fine. If you want anything beyond that, get a host. Best money I ever spent.

The server is laggy because your connection probably isn't good enough.
You don't need 6gb of ram unless you're doing some weird stuff.
With 10 plugins you can run on 1gb of ram for 20 players easily, I run my server on Daddycheese's 2gb EU plan and only Americans complain of lag which is latency.

Dude, computer ram has nothing to do with dedicated ram.

Also, the owner is really kind and is almost 24/7 and yes, im not joking! You can skype him and he will answer any questions! He knows what hes doing!
