Hosting Website VS Hosting on my computer
Hey there! I'm a bit new to running a minecraft server. I currently have 4gb of ram and I'm looking to expand. I was wondering if I should upgrade to 8GB of ram on my computer and continue to run the server off of my computer, or if I should find a hosting website. I am on a budget and would prefer to stay under 200$/year. The 8GB upgrade costs me 70$, so please let me know if that's the better choice. Thanks!

Home hosting pros:
- If you already have the hardware around, it can be cheaper per month depending on electricity costs
- You have full control over the server. Unless you are renting a VPS or dedicated server, you do not have full control over it.
Home hosting cons:
- It uses your connection bandwidth, so it can slow things down for your own usage as well as the players
- You are responsible for the hardware and any backups. If the hard drive dies on the server, you will have to replace it from your own pocket
- You have to pay the bill for the extra electricity used
- No matter how good of a connection you have, a host is going to have a better connection. This also means it's much easier to take a server out with an attack
- Most residential ISP's specifically forbid servers of any type on their service, so running on at home might be breaking the ISP rules.
- Most residential ISP's don't offer a static IP
In the long run, it's usually easier to rent out a server, and sometimes cheaper, depending on your cost of electricity.
Which one to use is something you have to decide for your particular situation and needs.

Hi, there are pros and cons to hosting from your home, versus hosting with a company. Hosting from your home, will be cheaper, but you have to keep your computer on, and it will affect your bandwidth for personal use. A hosting company fixes all of that, but it is more expensive... Its your choice tho!
