For the most part, methinks, servers aren't paid for by the people that run them. I didn't really want anything for my birthday earlier this year then was like ":OServerIShouldAskIfICanHaveASubscriptionForOne" and now I have a server. I'm not the one paying money, and it's pretty awesome.

no, the problem is, almost all make you pay every so often (mostly annually, semi-annually, or every month) If you would pay once and done for a server under $100...i may. I just think server's are way too expensive. also, one last thing....

***Your not going to be playing minecraft in the next 5 years (unless your like, crazy about this, which most people think they are, but they arn't), Some people spend $1500 on a server for 5 years, guess what? That money you could have saved and bought a used car, pay rent, but in for college, and even start your own server company. I don't care if you think servers are number one or what ever, but I will never pay for one. I think most people shouldn't also, but they either don't know how to save money or they are just dying to get a server. I played a game for two years and spent $500 on in game cash. I didn't know I spent that frickin' much!
If I would have saved, I could have bought my crap computer a good, used processor. When you pay, your just teaching yourself the hard way. Good day sir.

Companies have different payment methods. Server prices also vary. I had a server for 4 months and didn't spend over £100.

I have never heard of anybody to spend 1500$ on a server. Ever. I don't regret spending money on a server, I stopped it because I wanted to save money for things, like buying lunch.
I don't think servers are the best thing to grace the planet, but i do think, your thinking about everybodies point of view, and that you won't differ from your own thoughts and concepts.

No no. If one doesn't have a machine capable of running a server, or the the connection to host one. Or, they don't want to keep a machine on just for a server.

Its good. I could easily host a server on my machine and not be affected, but I don't want to burden myself with it.
