How to advertise my server correctly?

Yo, i'm BodaciousWhale. I have a question about how to advertise my server correctly. You see, I found it much easier to run my server in the summer, but with school year advertising... Let's just say it's harder. For one I constantly get bumped down whenever I bump, which is ever-so annoying. Second, my server has had everything needed to be succesful (Except a good spawn, but we're making a new one and better one now...). Third, my banner is pretty dope.

I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY I CAN'T GET PLAYERS.

They join, then leave. What am I to do? I have money for paid slots but other than that, how do I entertain the masses of players?

Eco212I'm sorry, but the thing is your server isn't very original. No matter how well you advertise you can't get an unoriginal server popular. There are so many PvP and raiding servers no-one is looking for new ones. Get some ideas, search around the internet, and if there isn't any/very many of those servers then convert your server to that form.

I mean I have so many ideas for my server, I want to share them! But the population doesn't want anything new. All they want is stuff upfront and something familiar. This server is a mix of MCPvP Main and Factions, but people don't like trying anything new unless it's an addition to a hub server.

Firstly, it might be a lack of direction. When I join a server, I want to feel like I can make an impact, make connections in the community, and amuse myself in the long-term. This means I want to be engaged, have a place to build that I don't have to shell out money for, or go through eternal arduous thankless tasks for.

The world should be organised and offer plenty of available resources(not handed to me, but ones I cms get easily through the normal single player routes, don't force your economy on me). The spawn could be, literally, a shack and I wouldn't give a hoot. The spawn is just the intro to a world I plan on helping build, not the end all be all.

Please don't make me perform puzzles to get out of your spawn point. Don't make me read a billion new systems, commands, and rules. Keep it simple. Don't make me run ten million miles to find a place to build.

Lastly and most importantly- be an active presence and a friendly voice. If you can't be there all the time, that's fine, but be sure your voice carries through your staff. Make clear rules and choose good staff members who will be regular, friendly, helpful, and responsible.

If you have all these things, just keep advertising well. Look, I even wrote a guide last week on how to write adverts. See if you might be writing lackluster adverts. See if you can improve.

And above all, have fun in your own server. If you aren't, why would you think others should?

Well really, key to success is originality and/or a good mix of everything.

Put your server out on all of the server sharing sites.. And then wait and hope.. That's pretty much it. I've been running a server for nearly two years, and I can tell you for sure, that unless you've got a massive minigame network or something super original you're not going to get very many people. It'll flux between 0-40, usually, and won't get much better than that.

Having a completely open server helps.. I've noticed that, even if you have one world for everyone to play on, if the other worlds need a certain rank that requires applying or building something to prove you're good enough, 60% of people will leave right away... And if you have to do something to play on any world, 90% of people will leave.. The majority of the population that small/new servers get are people who want things RIGHT NOW, and if they can't have that, then they don't want anything to do with that server.
