How to Allow Minecraft to Run with More RAM??
So this is probably a super simple thing to do but just want to make sure I do it right. I Have 6 GB of RAM on my computer and I want to allow Minecraft 3GB for right now.
Is this right or do I have to change the number next to the XMN?

You shouldn't give more than 2Gb to Vanilla/light minecraft as it slows down your OS and other processes.
interesting. Tekkit itself isnt too heavy, its a relatively lightweight mod. Not to mention being pre-1.7. However, 1.7/1.8 modpacks with 200 mods or more get REALLY heavy.
Namez, this may have been true before 1.8, but nowadays minecraft is a lot heavier. Around the time of the official release you could make do with 256 mb. Now, 1GB is the minimal to run on more than minimal settings for many of the weaker PC/s. For modded minecraft its often NECESSARY to allocate 3GB, since it contains so much other stuff.
I played on Tekkit with 512MB RAM.
I played Minecraft on with 64 MB on an old potato (computer) and an Intel Celeron processor, it really worked!
A little off-topic, but it is extremely unnesecary to have 3GB of RAM allocated to Minecraft. It will reserve unused RAM and just become a resource hog.
Okay thanks for replying just wanted to make sure I was doing everything right.
That is correct. The number next to Xmx will determine the amount of RAM dedicated to Minecraft. I wouldn't recommend anymore than half your computer's RAM dedicated to Minecraft. Just so you know.
Correct. Minecraft should now allocate 3 GBs of RAM now.
