Hello,
I have just started a new Minecraft server - I currently have people that I have known for a while playing, but I really want to grow to around 20-30 players in around 3 weeks time.
Does anyone have any suggestions that may help me with this (ideally with past experience)?

First off you have to seperate yourself from the other servers tha exist, you need them to want to join your server over others for specific reasons outside of that it's the first one they saw. Cause generally it won't be the first server they see, if you increase the quality and features of your server to be unique you could find a group of players that enjoy that gameplay and will maybe join your server.
Don't try to be age specific, because the people of all ages play this game. Keep your rules sort of non-controlling so they feel comfertable and be friendly and helpful to everyone who plays, meaning you'll have to be available at almost all hours.
When you think your servers 100% ready for people, then you advertise and bump and spread the word! Have to make sure you are ready for people though, it's the most important thing, because otherwise they will just leave and ur wasting ur time :p
