So let me explain what i'm trying to do,
I have an aerial picture of a real life town I want to recreate. I just want to render out the image in minecraft flat as a guide for building. I don't have a height map so it can't be 3D.
Is there any way to do this?

You can do that using sketchup but its a bit complicated if it have to be a larger area.
I would prefer DEM LiDAR or worstcase 10m SRTM, cuz then do you also get the correct heights of trees bushes and everything.
But keep in mine no matter what do you have to rebuild everything by yourself, this will only give a basic shape, and is mostly only used for creating landschaps.

Wich town is it? maybe i can find some SRTM or LiDAR data of it as i can convert it to a DEM heightmap. Then can you get it in "3D".
Its actually my neighborhood. Interesting thing however is, google has this new automatic 3D buildings generation, my neighborhood is a part of it. If there was a way to convert that 3D mesh to a height map, we'd be golden.
Lol Ignore this I don't know how to delete...
Ofcourse there is
you just take a screenshot of the town from above, save it as a .png file and use this program called "spritecraft" to convert it into a .schematic file, then you can use worldedit or mcedit to paste it in

Nah dude, he's talking about a real life town, not a minecraft town. Why would you try to rebuild a mc town?
Lol
No.
