how can i see the player list for a server as i cant find a single tutorial for it java

AFAIK that tends to be server dependent (assuming the info is not activley blocked)
In-game you can press TAB, but I'm assuming you mean every player that has logged on to a server? It depends on what server you have but you can try:
- Installing a plugin that gives information on players. There's quite a few you could use, depending on what version and software the server is running.
- Some servers may already have a command by default such as /list, but you would have to check with whatever host you're using.
- You can look for player data in the server files, but where that is would again depend on what your server is.
