You both need to be connected to the same modem.
Two people have said that and he has answered that he is.
heres the quickest easiest solution, go to homegroup and set a wireless lan group that will allow you to link your computers i think its called an adhawk group? and join it together this will simulate the online portion of minecraft and also go into in game settings and click publish to lan this will allow others to connect to u it a simple, quick and easy fix, and if it doesnt work after that make sure to check tha java is an exception to your firewall
Go to this website and scroll down to where it says...
Q: How do I play on a LAN without access to the internet?

Hope for your sake it works...
P.S. it's towards the bottom of the page.

See? See?
Let me reiterate. The OP IS NOT trying to run an online, public server. He's trying to let his friend WHO IS ON THE SAME NETWORK join his game.
If he was trying to run a public/dedicated server HE WOULD HAVE SAID SO IN HIS ORIGINAL POST.
Edit: aside from this all, your link is tellingine how to use a could-be-public server over LAN, offline. Still not what the OP is looking for. >.<

TheShadbusher_DioM_You derps..
Was that really necessary? They did need to be corrected, but was that the way to do it?
Giving the advice they did, if theOP had followed he would have spent his entire evening working out a solution that would've not worked.
To the poster above me: if you admit to being noobs, then why are you trying to answer a question you admit to not knowing about?
Hey, we're not derps, just noobs -.-

Port forwarding is not needed for a LAN world.
OP, check the firewalls on both computers. By default, LAN worlds won't work unless you remove Java from the influence of your firewall.

Try having him connect to you?
Macs and PC's both use the same java coding. So that is not a problem. I think you might still have to portforward, but I am not sure.
yes. we are on the same network but it still wont let me connect to the world.
Maybe try restarting your router. Then try him connection to you, also try typing in his IPV4 adress:#####(whatever it is on the screen).
Are you using the same network?
Do you two use the same network? If so, I don't know what the problem is. If not, then LAN servers only work if you're connected to the same network.
You can't, sorry to break it to you but you cant connect, UNLESS you have a server.Sorry to break the news to you (im not quite positive)
