How do I get a large player base?
Hello. I made a server and released it to PlanetMinecraft a few days ago, and I want to get a player base of at least 5 players? How do I do that? I have tried advertising on Mineplex and every day the second I can, I bump my PlanetMinecraft server submission . I have an advertising budget of $20, if that helps any . Here is my submission: http://www.planetminecraft.com/server/skycraftserver/. I really need help with this. I also need help with donations- only me and the one admin on my server donate! I currently have a server score of 11, but it REALLY embarrasses me when you see one of those servers that just started and already have 3 players playing.
Thanks,

Hi, I've just taken a look at your server, just to see if I could give you some advice and I'm not really going to sugar coat it.
First impressions are just as important as the rest of the server, if a player joins and see's a bad spawn or experience rude staff or players, or generally a deserted server, most players would just leave again.
When I saw your server-ad on: http://www.planetminecraft.com/server/skycraftserver/ I was like "this can't be good", mainly cause of first impressions, that showcase picture of your server was lacking excitement and content. From there you've probably already lost a lot of interested players. Try to add a few more pictures showcasing the bright side of your server, and think hard and long about angle and what is in the picture.
I went on anyways and was greeted with text in my face, welcoming me, was fine tho, if it wasn't cause I also spawned on top of a floating label, mixing in with the welcome message, was a big let down, as soon as it disappeared I was greeted with the smallest spawn I've ever seen on a public server. (No offence)
If you want players to join your server, at least put in a little effort first, that's the least you could do, don't misunderstand me tho, I'm not saying go build a masterpiece of a massive floating castle or anything like that but just by building a little bit, putting in a few hours on the decor, sticking to a theme and testing out the user-friendliness gets you really far.
Phew and that was all just the first impression.. Things aren't looking good from there cause most likely +95% have left by now.
So, to the gameplay part:
You add a shop which is always an interesting feature, but boy was it a let down to see only two custom villagers with such a little selection... all costing emeralds, which by the way is unobtainable on your server, haven't seen places to get/find them anyway, maybe try to add an item currency system, like cobble, grass, iron and such, things that players can work for and actually obtain.
The actual skyblock:
Yea well, call me nostalgic but I enjoy the original skyblock layout, however, I kinda enjoyed the ideas of the islands, black diamond and twin islands.. ohh boy I just had to try those out first, that however was a positive experience but might need a little polishing, maybe add donor only islands to score in a little extra cash.
Commands:
Yea well, didn't really bother much with this one as soon as I figured out there was no /spawn command... I may be rude here but.. Really?!
I know how servers work and how to find a way around that, but some new players won't and will be stuck on the island. I had to do /warp to be told to use /warps to find out you only have one warp called /warp store. User-friendly = 0%
Get yourself these plugins at least: worldguard, worldedit, essensials. Those will get you along way.
On your server-ad page, you have made 4 comments, please delete those, looking desperate is a no no from me, if I see you, the owner, begging for attention and players, I would do a 180 and walk the other way.
Please note I mean no offence with any of this, all it is, is some constructive criticism that I hope you will listen to and maybe work on.
Good luck with your server, I really hope it works out for you.
