How to get more people on server??

Come up with a good idea something other than 75% of other servers use (hint: Factions). Get a good base of staff train them, Post anywhere it's allowed, Have a website/forums of some type as a place for you to update your players on events and for member to member conversation in general. Get plugins like World Guard and WorldEdit, PermissionsEx, and if you are running a no griefing server a plugin like core protect or hawkeye. Up time is also the key if your server is always down no one will play because half the day they won't even be ale to join so you either need to invest in equipment for home hosting such as an external hard drive, Fast connection, and so on if you don't want to do this then you should try a professional hosting service. Be nice to players don't abuse powers and when you first give someone mod give them about two weeks to show they canbe trusted and if a moderator abuses powers repeatedly then you need to consider demoting them. Make sure the rules are clear and are easy to view (e.g. On the walls in the same room the player spawns in).

This is an example of what not to do.

1. Bringing people in the server is the easy part, getting them to stay is the harder part. To get your players to stay on your server, you have to make the server an enjoyable place. Make the spawn nice, plugins unique, and community nice.

2. Paying for advertising is not necessary. You can get your server popular without paying for advertising.

3. Pretend your a player. What would you want on a server? What would you find interesting and enjoyable at the same time?

4. Never use factions. You can use factions, but always have other things to do such as spleef, creative, whatever. Never use factions on its own. There are thousands of factions servers out there, why would I join yours?

5. If there are no players online, no one joins. But the problem is, how would you get players online to fulfill the other players needs? This is the tricky part. The best way to get past this is to encourage players to tell their friends about your server.

To sum it up, make your server enjoyable, advertise correctly, and make your server unique.

Get people to like you and make your server seem enjoyable. Make it different than other ones. Advertising and being friendly is key. Factions can get really annoying at times. Sometimes its not so bad depends if you can raid on the server.
