I have plenty of experience with servers, and how they operate. Staff are one of the most important things. If people are telling you your staff are bad, most likely they are. So my suggestion is to get to know the players before giving them staff, if they seem like power hungry, and are trying to get staff, I wouldn't give it to them. Applications never seem to work very well, from experience, Most application staff were not good staff. With exceptions though.

About 3/4 of the time, people welcome a new player. If a town owner is online, they always invite you. If I come on later on. I realize a new player came on earlier and welcomed them. If you came into the server in a negative mood that's how your experience will be.

I didn't come on in a negative mood, I came on to see what the server was like. You should really replace your staff. Judging from what I saw and other's posts they aren't very experienced

This is the reason no one joins your server. It is horrible and that is why over 50 people have told you it sucks. I joined for 5 minutes and everyone ignored every single question I asked. No one cares that you were "busy" everyone was just flying along chatting. Even if you WERE busy answering players questions comes before doing permissions, you can do those at any time but if a player leaves they usually don't come back. Insulting people on this thread isn't gaining ya any popularity as owner, either. You're not fit to be an owner if you act like this

I really think the guy has given up on this thread or has forgotten about it because there has not been an answered post by him on this thread. Not even when people posted the minute he had made the thread.

If he is listening, I would say, whitelist the server, clean it up (changing the economy, adding world guard etc) and then you should unwhitelist it, let some people on to test it and see if it is fixed. I have experience with running servers and a good server too.

Add something that no other server has. Like a custom minigame. That will make the server unique and fun! (If the game is fun)

Ok, here is my idea, yes you advertise, you should also make it to an offline server so more people can join. You should also, put more PLUGINS, on it so it will be much more fun.

You could get fun plugins such as, Mob Arena, HungerGames etc. And other plugins such like Wolrd Gaurd as mentioned in the comments, and other plugins such as, NoCheatPlus, LogBlock for hackers etc.

Also, what I said about advertising, you should make it to an offline server as I said, then post it on mineshafter. Since, many people these days have cracked accounts, as known as Mineshafter.

Do not do this! Going to an offline server disables any authentication and allows ANYONE on. Do not post on Mineshafter. He is just trying to mess with you

Overall its an "ok" server but it needs tons of work. There is no way to actually make money so players can't create their own towns and protect their builds because it requires money. You also need some sort of minigame because just plain survival is going to get less and less fun to some people.You also need a BETTER economy; there is no admin or player shops so players cant sell items or buy them. I'll come in a couple of days to see how you guys progress and don't say you'll work on all of these things later WORK ON THESE THINGS NOW!

Most people here are completely incorrect and have no idea what they are talking about. You should NEVER pay for advertising. I am constantly changing my server and adding new things. If you are paying for advertising, you are advertising an incomplete version of your server. Only pay for advertising if you are completely finished with your server, and everything is final. Getting players on is very easy, making them stay is the difficult part. If players are having a hard time getting around, they will most likely quit and join another server. Make sure you have fun/exciting gameplay, and you keep the player hooked and make them want to come back the next day. It's not about advertising or having "drop parties".

Be nice to the players etc, talk to them. Making the server fun should will make players join.

Sooo... This server needs a lot of work.
First off, the mods need to set their limits. One player was disrespecting a mod and other players and nothing was done about it; untill I told the mod he should ban the guy.
The staff needs to listen to the players and carefully read what they are saying.
I almost got banned only my because mouse is capable of running macros (Razer Deathadder).
The server shop is full with bugs, I could get around 800.000$ in 20 minutes.
IF you want players to join your server, you should focus on many things.
Be friendly to the players and listen to them.

If you play with the players and give them little presents and stuff, the LOVE it. I was co-owner on my friends server a while back and people love it when the owner or admins step down from their lofty perch high up in the sky and come down to Earth to walk among mortals.

Get the money, spend it on advertisements and good hosting .

Yes, I agree. Interact with your players. A LOT. On the server I co-own, I build with them, help the out, survive with them, take their suggestions, and even let them help me sometimes. Ban the spammers, racists, griefers and hackers. Mute the rank-beggars and advertisers for a few hours. Put the spawnkillers in jail for a little while. Just try to set good examples while letting people be happy. The main rule of cosplay, 'If you can't be a good example, you at least have to be a horrible warning' does NOT apply here. ONLY to cosplay. DON'T BE A BAD OWNER.

Kids running servers are 100% based on their maturity and how well they handle things and fi D solutions to,problems, regardless of their age, race. The attitude and maturity varies greatly during this day and age, I have met very mature 8 year olds, predicting that they have potential and will one day become a good person.

As for the server, yes people LOVE it when the owner interacts with the players. People are very clingy and always ask for the owner / admin to play with them.

As for advertising, advertise your server in the server section, but ensure that you have the most badass pictures with shaders in order to catch players attention.

I do not know if having kids running servers is a good idea.
chances are the server will not last that long for one reason or another.

This is why that on my server I am actually part of the players. I will build with them, do survival, Minigames , talk to them, etc.. You need to be in more contact with your players and make them feel that they are important. That's my 2¢

Guys you are being mean. This guy might be a 10 year old kid trying his best. You never know. Try to give him suggestions like maybe get this plugin called "world guard" to stop people from greifing and stuff like that. No need to be mean

Yea i thought it fair that i joined the server and i did get welcomed on by some of the players on there but after that i was ignored the admins did not even answer me when i asked what type of server it was.

Back to the original posters question,
I ran a 30 slot factions PvP server which was whit-listed and i had no problem filling them and the server remained active for well over a year but in the last 6 months things died down. i have now removed the white-listing and done a restart and things are slowly picking up again, (The point i am trying to make is that people like to come and go)

have a look do a little research into what people are wanting to play and go with that.
Its not easy but you can do it.

OK noone has told you how to get players on. POst on websites like this!! Get dedicated players! Those dedicated players will get others on! Protect areas if you don't know how look it up on youtube! Hope it helps
