Hey all, I was wishing to start up a server next month, and was wondering how much ram I need. I was looking through server plans and don't really want to spend more than 20$ a month, (may be a little hard, I get it). I only play on having 20-25 slots maximum. I plan on having multiverse with three worlds, factions, creative, and a few kitpvp plugins on a world. Not too many other plugins. I want to get very minimal lag, so if I need more ram, then feel free to tell me, I was just wondering.

all depends on how many plugins and players you run all at once

1GB will do for most people. If you're paying more than $10/GB you're getting ripped off. If you're paying less than $5 or $6/GB you're getting ripped off.

I recommend getting a VPS and not a Minecraft-specific hosting service. Dedicated hosts tend to oversell and don't let you make a lot of the optimizations you can on a VPS.

A common misconception that I hate with server owners is that More RAM means More Speed. Adding more RAM does not make your server faster if it's not using it, and chances are it wouldn't be.

You need a good amount, but not a lot. I'd recommend 3GB. Here's a cheap yet great host: https://www.ggservers.net/minecrafthosting.html
I recommend taking the first three add-ons with the Iron plan if you go with them. The first and third are free, the second is dedicated IP which allows you to use an IP such as play.servername.com to connect. The sub-total is $9 and with the dedicated IP it's $12.

Start small(around 1-2 GB), then upgrade as you need.
