The drift while flying when playing in creative mode is super annoying and detrimental. It always causes me to mess up block placement and prevents me from building quickly. Is there any way I can turn it off?

Like the guy below said, it happens to everyone. However if you want to stop almost immediately what you can do is go in the opposite direction right away, so if you are going forward ( W button) and you want a sudden stop go back in the opposite direction ( S button), and vice versa. Hope this helps a little bit, though do note you will drift no matter what in in mode in Minecraft and even on different editions like Bedrock and Education editions!

It's just the way friction works in the vanilla physics system: If you're in the air, friction is about 10%, meaning you keep about 90% of your speed at the end of each tick. This means that most of your movement speed comes carried over from previous ticks. If you were able to set this friction value to 100% of your speed (meaning you wouldn't "drift" at all) your top (and only) speed would be about half your walking speed on the ground without jumping. A mod might be able to help you increase the friction AND hold you up, but in the meantime the only thing I can think of is a tool that puts placeholder blocks next to you to stop you.
