I need help downloading mods.

Download a mod loader. Some mods only work in forge and some only work in fabric. (Forge https://files.minecraftforge.net/net/minecraftforge/forge/ Fabric: https://fabricmc.net/use/installer/ ) When downloading forge be careful because it uses adfly. On adfly don't click anything except for the skip button in the top right. Don't allow notifications. Adblock recommended. Run the file to install it. For fabric if you use the windows installer you won't need java, for forge you do need java to install it. If you don't want to install java use this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6IoXgGFHFg&ab_channel=bricksupply. Once installed make a new installation in your launcher and choose your mod loader for the version. (fabric does this automatically). Run the new installation once to make sure everything is working. Close your game and then put a mod file from curseforge in to %appdata%/.minecraft/mods (copy and paste in to the address bar in file explorer). Run your game and the mod should be installed. Alternatively, google a yt tutorial.
