LAN not working!!

My bro got a new project and he told me to play it with him! When i tried to play with him using LAN, my game just showed this:
Connection refused: connect!!!!
I was connected just fine!! WHAT THE FRUIT WAS GOING ON???

well this is fixed now, by a new update
is he connecting with a laptop or desktop? because I think laptops have to be connected with ethernet not wireless to the same network
Thats isn't true as I play with my sibling just fine. I am on a laptop using wifi on the top floor of my house and they are on a desktop with Ethernet connected to the same router I am.
