LAN World
Hello, my friend and i want to play together on a LAN world. But it never connects. It sometimes says it timed out, how do we play on LAN. We are both on the same LAN internet. He has a macbook pro, would that make a problem. I am not sure but i think it dosn't even show up, we have to direct connect but i can't check now because lately, with the new update (1.6) when i open to LAN it just shows the port number not the address. Where do i find the address, it used to show the address where it now shows the port (on the chat screen). The problem i am addressing happened before 1.6 but now i can't put in the address to check because i can't find the address. What do i do!!!! Tell me if i am doing something wrong. Please solve both problems if you can. Thank you so much if you can!!!

Well, in order to play LAN, both users must be in the same house sharing the same router. Are you guys doing that?
It wouldn't be that, if they weren't using the same internet it wouldn't show up at all
Is your friend hosting the Lan world?
TehEpicKewlioness
That helps him how?
Are you sure you clicked "Open to LAN"?
The problem is that the Mac can host as much as it wants but the P.C. won't pick it up, it happens to me, you're gonna have to just host it on your P.C.
We are using the exact same router in the same house. When i open to LAN it just says that it failed to connect to server, connection timed out or something like that. Do i need to turn off the firewall or do something with the firewall?
I am using a Windows laptop and he is using a Macbook pro, just so you know.
THAT'S THE PROBLEM!
Only you can host it.
Laptops can't access LAN worlds hosted by macs!

Im having a simular problem. I opened up a LAN world with my windows 7 PC and when my friend trys to connect it just says that it can't connect or something like that. We first tried with my friend using a windows 7 desktop then a windows 8 laptop. Neither worked.
We also did it where my friend hosts it and it didn't work
You have to be offline I think.
I now tried it with my brother who has Windows and it still says failed to connect to server connection timed out. what do we do. We tried being offline, that didn't work. We both unblocked Minecraft from the windows firewall. What do we do? Please answer!!!!
Try this
On the computer that is hosting the lan world, press the Windows Key (flag thingy) PLUS R. Then type in cmd. In the black box that comes up, type in "ipconfig"
Look for IPv4 Address and follow the dots to a number that probably starts with 192.something.something
Tell your brother or whoever to direct connect to that IP. Assuming you are running on the same router.

I i asked my brother to put in the IPv4 address in direct connect but it still says that the connection timed out. If no one has any other theories, could anyone professional come and help me?
The only other solution I have for you, is to run a vanilla minecraft server. It is very user friendly.
You can download it from here.

What is a vanilla server exactly?
Its exactly like regular minecraft LAN, but others can connect to you outside of your network. But only if you choose.
