EASY you know how you had a texture pack well i might not be the correct version so just go into texture packs and click default and then X it off than open it up again that's what i did when i had the same problem
I have the same problem in the new update 1.6.1 how did you fix it
You will need optifine
Edit the default.png file so there is a transparent green, nearly invisible background

Looks like Mojang didnt support HD fonts. Try installing optifine for that feature.
Awe, man.. A friend of mine had that same problem a few months ago! I wish we had written down how we fixed it! I remember that it was really easy and simple - Once you figure it out, you'll kick yourself for not thinking of that first. :/
