I had a server and know how difficult it can be o stand out but here are my tips on how to stand out. My server actually where a kinda popular server, I did close the server Unfortunately, because of ddos.
Hers the tips:
1. Make a good banner you can also make banners for free if you google "Make banner online free"
2. Inform people what your minecraft server is about in your pmc post.
3. Take some nice screenshots from the server.
4. If you have money to spare, you can always purchase advertising
