Hello PMC! I'm making this topic because I'm wondering why I'm running Minecraft at a constant 60FPS, no matter what I do, it's never higher, never lower, now I've just finished building my new PC and I'm 100% certain I should get MUCH more FPS than what I'm getting. I'm running Minecraft 64-Bit. Now I've tried running everything on the lowest settings to see if there would be a difference and it sticks to 60FPS. I've allocated 8GB of memory and no change. Any suggestions as to why it's happening?
Specs :
OS : Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit
CPU : i7-3930K 3.20 GHz 6 Cores
Graphics Card : Nvidia GeForce GTX 690
RAM : Corsair Vengeance 32GB (Overkill, I know)
If you need more info, feel free to ask.

ok honestly i dont know why noone can actually answer this for you, 1st off vsync (can be the problem) which was covered in a few posts but in no detail, but another thing that can fix it specially if your using optifine is go to options, video settings, then top right ish theres a slider that says performance, if it is set all the way down to the bottom in optifine it will be using v sync, or it might say performance 60 fps and than can be slid up to max fps if you like or can be set to run at a constant 150 fps for example if you like.
if however you are not using optifine then vsync and the performance buttons are seperate buttons the vsync is under options, video settings, on the bottom right,
and the performance button is top right ish over the vsync button amd make sure thats set to performance: max fps
anyways hope this helps you cuz know personally if you bought a nice pc cuz you wanna brag to your friends about having 5000 fps then its nice to not be stuck at 60 fps. i know thats the case with me. enjoy your high fps

Ya'll say 60fps for this game is enough, all you need or amazing, but i couldnt hand this game and just 60fps...its crapy.

"Amazing FPS" is irrelevant. A constant FPS is what you want.
The -only- way to get a constant FPS is if your system is fast enough to render it consistently. If he spawns a million creepers and he still gets 60 fps without any chugging - THAT's amazing. It has nothing to do with having 2389043284 FPS. What the heck is the point of rendering at 500 FPS? You're stressing out your GPU by rendering 8.3x more than your monitor can even handle...

Arbitraryness for the win
Well, 60 hz is actually like 59.85 FPS or so, but it's being rounded of course.
Yes, it's to prevent screen tearing. It's the optimal way of playing. Playing with a higher FPS will make it more annoying unless you have a monitor to handle that speed.

Its vSync, if you have a 60Hz monitor and you have vSync enabled it means that it will play at the 60Hz = 60FPS.
Phrozenbit hit the nail on the head. You want the best answer...thats it.
Disable Vsync.
I'm not complaining and am fully aware that 60FPS is perfect, however I was simply trying to understand why it's happening. Thanks everyone for your input! I'll try a few things out.
Has to do with V-sync. Screen drawing synchronizes with your display's vertical refresh rate ( 60 Hz most commonly ) to prevent page tearing, if i'm not mistaken. you could disable that too for a Higher FPS, but the top and bottom half could tear when moving fast.
60 FPS is the optimal FPS. You wouldn't be able to tell the difference between 1000 or 60. But if you must, use Max-FPS in the options
i second this, really anything over a solid 60fps you cant tell the difference... i have 4gb and a 2 year old alienware laptop that normally runs at 400fps when i have fraps open BUT since latest bukkit release its been at max 30
so either there may be some minor settings you need to adjust OR you may have the same issue i am having with my fps

are you running 64bit java because i had the same problom and that fixed it
yea Vsync is probably on . but 60 frames is all you need.

Why complain when you have constant, great FPS?
'Cause he spent a ton of money trying to get constant, amazing FPS. -.-
