Hi
Ive not posted on here for a while but think its worth asking the question.
What's happened?
Basically before the update mods where fine but with the new launcher and everything that came with 1.6 Nothing will install other that the standard game. I dont want much and im only really interested in 1 mod, a minimap (I have been using Reis minimap but I have had no response to my questions there).
Others would be nice to try though.
Please can anyone help
And no sarcastic "get a PC" comments please. Its only funny the first 100 times

will have a play around when I have time to do so.
Will let you know If I get it working.

You probably mod just like on a Windows or a Linux;
1.) Navigate to the .minecraft (or whatever the folder is called, I'm assuming you know where and what its called.
2.) Go into the versions folder.
3.) Copy/Paste the default folder in the versions folder, most likely named "1.6.2".
4.) Rename the folder to whatever you so desire and then change the two files inside of the folder to the same exact name you called the folder in which they're in. (Both files have different file extensions so you will be able to do this.)
5.) Edit the .json file (I'm assuming since you use a mac that you will know how to edit these kinds of files, I only know the windows way.) When inside of the file, you'll find one (and only one) liine which contains something like this: "id": "<Name of folders and both files>",. You need to change what is inside of <> to the name of the folder and both of the files, save the file extensions.
6.) When you want to mod your minecraft, you'll have to mod inside of this version's .jar file. To do so its mostly the same as before, you just drag and drop any files of which you need to install in the .jar file to make your minecraft mod work correctly.
7.) Deleting the META INF or whatever its called for macs, I honestly haven't played much minecraft on a macintosh before; To do this, you can't just delete the whole darn folder, you'll have to only delete two of the files in the META INF folder out of the three. The two files of which you'll have to delete are called: "MOJANGCS.SF" and "MOJANGCS.RSA". You HAVE to leave "MANIFEST.MF" in the META-INF folder or else your game won't work.
8.) Now, you aren't done just yet, you still have to add this version to the launcher itself. To do so:
1. Open the minecraft launcher.
2. Log in if you haven't already.
3. Select the "New Profile" button.
4. Change the "Profile name" to whatever you so desire.
5. Under "Use Version" click the drop down list and select the version, most likely called "Release <version's profile name>.
6. Click "Save profile" button.
7. Under the "Profile" Drop down list select the profile you just added if it isn't already automatically selected.
8. Click the "Play game" button, if you followed these steps correctly then the mod should work.
9.) Have fun with your newly modded minecraft, although if these steps don't work then I'm baffled as they work for Windows and I'm almost certain Linux as well. First test not deleting the META-INF as in my early days of minecraft I played on a Macintosh and never had to delete the META-INF; the game always modded perfectly fine with the folder still intact.
