Fair warning: I'm a newb when it comes to hosting a server. I'm super sorry for any and all question overloads I will be asking that result from this thread. I'm very sure many of them may make some of you roll your eyes and faceplant your desk. We all have to start somewhere though.

I'm looking at getting a private server for my kids and their friends to play on. One of the friends uses a Mac. I would like to install a modpack that uses at least TC and they've requested the morph mod as well.

My daughters says she believes the Mac friend cannot use Tekkit or FTB (no idea why and she can't ask him at this moment because he's not available). I know that those 2 are launchers for modpacks, but I do not know if that will effect what modpack I want. In truth, I'm not even sure WHAT modpack to get. So, I'm looking for suggestions.

I'm looking at Simplex Servers for hosting, but am unsure if I can make it whitelisted? As well as any info there, I also need to know what modpacks/launchers are compatible for both Mac and PC, or, if it's easier, which AREN'T.

Thanks for any help!

Forgot to answer.

By default minecraft can whitelist. No need for mods or plugins.

Awesome! This is exactly the info I needed. Also, yes, by TC I meant tinkers. I was a bit skeptic when she said he couldn't run those two launchers since MC is such a huge game and it seemed unlikely that well known launchers wouldn't run on Mac.

Anyway, thank you for the reply! 100% helpful.

The beautiful thing about minecraft is that it runs on Java. Java runs on almost every modern device you can think of. Including my washing machine and car.

If you go to the download page of technic aka tekkit here : link

You would see the following 3 icons. Windows, Mac, Linux. In short. Yes he is able to play that.

Same goes for Feed the best , or FTB.
Again you can download it here. https://www.feed-the-beast.com/

Again same support as technic. all 3 main operating systems.

Now I don't know what you mean by "TC" but I assume it's tinkers construct, a mod.
But as you may guess already. It's Java and compatible no matter what operating system pretty much.

The only time it would not be the case is if minecraft does not support a Java version that's unsupported by the operating system. Which is pretty rare. Basically operating system that are nearly 20 years old.

Seakrits, I also need to know what modpacks/launchers are compatible for both Mac and PC

While I am able to do that, it's near impossible to list all those as there are to many to name. It would takes me ages to list all that. Best is to read what is compatible or not, usually developers have notes about that, and if not you would get an error. Which usually says which mod gave an error.
