So. I want to make a custom map, but I want to make it with friends. I would imagine that means one must make it on a multiplayer server, but I can't find any guides. Anyone know how to help?

Self host the server
I can help a lot in redstone and command blox.
You can give me the details of the map and forward the link. (just save the world and post it on mediafire, give it to me) We can simultaneously keep forwarding the map without changes.

I would recommend using a trail version of a Minecraft server Hoster which lasts a month, such as the one on ggservers.com. and if you want the small server extended its only like 2$ a month to keep it running.
Yep, just make a multiplayer server.
Install WorldEdit and possible a few other helpful building plugins, get your friends on there and you are good to go.
When you would like to upload the map just download the world folder from your server files.
