Maps not working for macOS

I'm losing my mind a little bit. I've found some amazing maps that I want to download on my macbook air and all the tutorials provided from planetminecraft are made for windows. I've tried trouble shooting, but anytime it seems like I've found whatever it is that is stopping it from working, minecraft says the files aren't formatted correctly. I've tried unzipping the files, which then gives me a folder that opens to more folders that say advancements, data, DIM-1, DIM1, and then some file names that I don't really understand. This is the farthest I can get before everything becomes either a) unhelpful, or b) incomprehensible. I saw someone on a post from 12 years ago saying to do something with the first "NV file" they see, but I have no idea what that means. I just want to open the map so I can replicate a statue, but I feel like I'm going genuinely insane. Is it just not compatible for mac? Is this an outdated hardware/downloads thing? Am I just dumb? I'm genuinely so close to just giving up and calling this a lost cause. I'm used to playing minecraft on pocket edition, and I'm absolutely dogshit with regular, well-made computers, let alone apple's horror show.
If this is at all fixable, please please explain this to me like I'm 5. If it's not fixable, please break it to me gently :(

If you have java. Open the game and go to resourcespacks, click open resources pack folder and there you should have the main mc folder - go out of the resources packs and go to saves --> there you put the map and unpack it(7zip, winrar or a built in prog that opens the box for you)
