i was just on a server and over 700 peoples minecraft crashed at once including mine and my friends. Is this a sign of possible upcoming updates or pre relises or a hacker! did this just happen to anyone else!

It's possible the server just sent a malformed packet that crashed clients. This isn't too uncommon.
