I try to install optifine and modloader for 1.5.1 but it gives me a black screen
I follow the instructions for optifine and modloader, I even downloaded modloader 3 times, I got it from MinecraftDL and the official one on minecraft forums.
I'm thinking it has something to do with modloader because optifine is up to date anyways.
Can someone please help me?

I have found the problem. You must install the CORRECT version of the mod. I don't mean 1.5 stuff I mean the Forge/Modloader version. You cannot install random mods, you have to ensure that it is meant for forge/modloader
Magic Launcher with Optifine has been working perfect for me. Why don't you try that?
Try using Magic Launcher. It makes things really easy. You don't have to install the mods to your Jar. Just select which ones you want to use and Magic Launcher does the rest for you. If It still doesn't work, then its something wrong with the mods.
I also installed Optifine with Modloader and it didn't work. Even when I set up the MCPatcher. I don't know what's wrong.
You have either installed Optifine wrong. What you want to do is go to the main place you login to, and click options. Next, click force update a couple of times. Go into the game, and play on a world or server for a little bit. Go re-download Optofine, and try again. Hope this helps, if not, message me, thanks
It is probably optifine. I thas to be updated to 1.5.1
No it doesn't, since 1.5.1 was just bugfixes, Optifine does not HAVE to update for it to work. Crash Logs anyone? As the saying goes "Logs or it didn't happen."
I got black screen when I installed Optifine as well, and I don't know what's causing it
